So after a restless night I managed to sleep in a bit, and then headed outside to what looked like a beautiful day (clear sky and sunshine). Now my phone said it was 1 degree just before I left the apartment but not trusting Google I thought there was no way that was true. But sure enough it was only 1 outside and horribly windy to make it even better.
I hadn't even walked a block before I highly considered heading back to the apartment and staying there all day but no I soldiered on and actually managed to see a lot today despite needing to thaw out in a Starbucks several times throughout the day.
Most of my day was spent trying to find somewhere to swap money over and somewhere to buy a scarf, beanie and gloves. Now after several attempts at trying to find warm clothes all I managed to find was a scarf and that wasn't until late in the afternoon, And by then I was pretty much numb all over.... To the point I couldn't feel my hands or face and my legs were wind burnt through my leggings.
Despite the cold I saw Philadelphia Magic Gardens, which was a whole building covered in mosaics, plates, glass bottles etc. After that I walked over to Rittenhouse Square which is a small park. Here is where I thought I had my first squirrel sighting..... But no it was a stick, I was so disappointed.
After lots of walking in the cold I deserved a treat which was Shake Shack, which was convieniently located right next to Rittenhouse Square.
I then thought bugger walking in the cold again so I caught an Uber down to the Museum of Art (the Rocky Steps). I did the typical tourist thing and jogged up the steps but that was mainly to get the blood flowing again. I've visited the steps before but have never been in the Museum itself and considering it was pay what you like day to get in I thought why not.
So I started roaming around the museum when I got told off for having my back back and was told to put it in the cloak room. After 20 minutes walking around I had no luck in finding the cloak room so I just sat on a seat and thawed out for a while and then decided to leave. I pretty much paid 10 bucks to sit in a warm building which I could have done in Starbucks for free.
I'm sure I missed out on some awesome things in the museum but by this time the jet lag had really kicked in so I was ultra sulky and it was like 4am at home so I just wanted a nap.
Anyway I had some delish Ramen for dinner tonight.... Bonus for staying a block away from Chinatown.
I head back to New York tomorrow morning for a few nights which I'm ultra excited for, let's just hope it warms up.... I'll settle for a couple of degrees even.
Enjoy the photos of today's adventures
